OUTSTANDING ACCOMPLISHMENTS OF 2009-2010

100% of the Class of 2010 is accepted to 116 colleges and universities.

The Class of 2010 earns nearly $4.8 million dollars in merit scholarships, and 41% of the class is accepted to university honors programs.

Senior is named National Merit Scholar, and two seniors were named Commended Scholars.

Senior is named National Hispanic Scholar.

Senior receives an appointment to the United States Naval Academy.

54 upper school students take 150 Advanced Placement exams in 17 subjects. AP classes are added in Microeconomics and Macroeconomics, bringing the total number of AP classes offered to 20.

Seven middle school students win state-level recognition in the Duke University Talent Identification Program, and two won Grand Recognition.

Groundbreaking takes place for a new upper school building.

Technology expands with SMART Boards™ in every classroom, document cameras in more than 70% of classrooms, extended in-house professional development for all faculty and staff, and increased accessibility of wireless resources.

Three seniors are recruited to play collegiate football.

Senior is one of twelve athletes named to FHSAA All Academic Team.

Teams and athletes excel with a conference championship in football; district championships in volleyball and softball; regional qualification in golf, swimming and cross country; regional title in softball; state qualification in cross country and boys tennis while softball team advances to state semi-finals, and middle school cheerleaders take first place in the US Finals.

Individual athletes in baseball, boys’ basketball, cross country, football, softball, tennis and volleyball are recognized at the all-conference, all-county and all-state levels. 

Baseball, girls’ basketball, girls’ swimming, softball and volleyball teams all place among the top ten all-academic teams in the state. Softball team ranks tenth in the nation.

Sophomore is named Class A Softball Pitcher of the Year, and junior is named Class A Softball Defensive Player of the Year. Coach wins her 100th game and is named Florida State Softball Coach of the Year by NFHS. 

Canterbury’s Thespian and Junior Thespian troupes receive nineteen Superior ratings, twelve Excellent ratings, four Critic’s Choice awards and two college scholarships in district and state competition.

Ocean Bowl team qualifies for national competition, and Envirothon team places fourth in the state, its highest ranking ever.

Community service reaches new highs with students at every grade level participating in service-based learning. Projects are as diverse as cooking at Ronald McDonald House, building gardens, creating cards for patients, sending cards and letters to our troops and beach clean-up.

Students in Prekindergarten through Grade 4 participate in International Olympics as school-wide International Studies program expands.
