LIBRARY AND MEDIA CENTERS

Canterbury students enjoy access to two libraries, one on the Hough Campus for prekindergarten through grade four, and the other on the Knowlton Campus for grades 5-12.  All students may use either campus library.

The collection currently includes just under 20,000 volumes and myriad resources for both academic research and reading for pleasure.  Students are able to search the catalog online from home through a link to the Online Public Access Catalog (OPAC).  There is an online research database, QuestiaSchool, for upper school students in grades 9-12 with full-text books and journals, as well as a professional development section for faculty completing advanced degrees.  Students in grades 7-12 also have access to Ebrary, a collection of 45,000+ electronic books for research endeavors.

New this year for the Hough Campus is the TumbleBookLibrary, a collection of TumbleBooks (animated, talking picture books), TumblePuzzles and TumbleQuizzes, as well as TumbleResources for teacher. TumbleBooks are created from existing picture books. For login information, contact Linda Garrison.

Summer reading, Sunshine State books, Book Fairs, and friendly competitions encourage literacy and a love of reading among students.

LIBRARY NEWS

The Encyclopedia Britannica Online School Edition is now available for all Canterbury students, PK-12.  This web-based version of the popular print encyclopedia includes separate search options for upper, middle and lower school students.  The resource also has journal articles and animated pages that go more in depth about specific topics.  There are timelines, current world and national news stories, a world atlas, images, biographies and more.

Because it is an encyclopedia in electronic format, the Encyclopedia Britannica Online School Edition is a perfect resource for academic writing, including research papers, biographies, and essays.
Students can access the site from school or home. Please contact Mrs. Van Aken for a remote-access password.
