cO-cURRICULAR Activities

Educating the whole child means offering a wide range of experiences. Co-curricular activities expand learning opportunities beyond the classroom.  Students are able to interact with a broader range of peers and faculty and benefit from insight into new environments and cultures.

Field trips are designed to link curriculum to hands-on experiences.  Our youngest students learn about transportation, then tour behind the scenes at the airport.  Older students observe the environmental impact on ecosystems from boardwalks in the Everglades. Overnight trips run the spectrum from visits to research facilities in the Florida Keys to outdoor education experiences in the mountains of North Carolina. Each trip allows students to develop leadership and team-building skills, yet have fun along the way.

Clubs are tailored to meet students' interests and skills.  There are more than fifty different organizations and activities from which to choose. That number continues to grow in response to student-initiated requests. Listed here are a few of the activities that Canterbury students enjoy:

NATIONAL MERIT SCHOLARS & NATIONAL HISPANIC RECOGNITION PROGRAM SCHOLAR
Congratulations to our 2010 National Merit Scholar and our two National Merit Commended Scholars.

AP SCHOLARS
We are so proud of all our AP ScholarsAP Scholar designation is granted to students who receive grades of 3 (5 is the highest score) or higher on three or more AP Exams.  This year we had three AP Scholars in the Class of 2009, four AP Scholars in the Class of 2010, and three AP Scholars in the Class of 2011.

AP SCHOLARS WITH HONOR
The AP Scholar with Honor distinction is granted to students who receive an average grade of at least 3.25 on all AP Exams taken, and grades of 3 or higher on four or more of these exams.  This year we had one AP Scholar with Honor in the Class of 2009 and two AP Scholars with Honor in the Class of 2010.

AP SCHOLARS WITH DISTINCTION
The AP Scholar with Distinction designation is granted to students who receive an average grade of at least 3.5 on all AP Exams taken, and grades of 3 or higher on five or more of these exams.  This year we congratulate two AP Scholars with Distinction in the Class of 2009 and three AP Scholars with Distinction in the Class of 2010.
