Arts Education | Grades 3 & 4 take the stage in Pirates! |
Whether lower school "pirates" or upper school Thespians, students have award-winning talents. Across all grades, they have been acting, singing, dancing, painting, weaving and learning creative expression in its many forms. Even Canterbury's college guidance program is involved, encouraging students to visit the National Performing and Visual Arts Fair held last October at USF.
Performances this year have included the premier of the production Is There Life After High School? Never produced previously in the Tampa Bay area, a one-act version of the show won acclaim with a Superior ranking at the District Thespian competition, qualifying to compete at the State Festival at the end of April. For the first time, Junior Thespians went to Districts and came away with multiple awards, including Critic's Choice, the highest award. Below is the list of middle and upper school award winners:

Middle school students "got on the bus" with their production, You're a Good Man, Charlie Brown! (Photo, right). The new volunteer organization, Muses of the Arts hosted refreshments for Canterbury Café, a unique on-stage seating with Junior Thespians serving between performancs. Muses will host the pre-show reception that comes with VIP tickets and priority seating for the musical Bye Bye Birdie, expected to be a sold-out show April 16-18. The group will also be helping with ArtFest. (Click here for a membership form to join Muses).
The all-school production brings together the entire school community, as will the 40th Anniversary celebration on April 18. Be sure to stop by the ArtFest exhibit in the Dollinger Center to see the year end visual arts display of work by PreK-12 student and faculty artists.
