marine studies summer 2010

Do you love the water? Learn about Tampa Bay ecosystems and organisms in Canterbury's unique Marine Studies Education Center. The following camps are offered Monday-Friday and are specific to students entering Kindergarten – Grade 2, Grades 3 -5, and Grades 5 - 8. The camp offerings include Marine Science Day Camp, Go Green Nature Camp and Silly Science Camp.

MARINE SCIENCE CAMP
Do you love the water? Come learn about Tampa Bay’s local ecosystems and organisms in our Marine Studies Education Center. This camp will combine a variety of hands-on marine science labs with some ocean-related art and craft activities. Lessons will include ecology, marine biology and marine geology. Half-day camps offered for campers in grades K– 5. Full-day camp offered for campers in grades 5 through 8.

Summer Camp Dates:
Grades K-2: July 19 –23 from 9:00 a.m. —12:00 p.m.
Grades 3-5: July 26– 30 from 9:00 a.m.—12:00 p.m.
Grades 5 -8: August 2 –6 from 9:00 a.m.—4:00 p.m. 

Program cost: Program cost for half day is $150 if registered by 4/15; $165 if registered after 4/15. Program cost for full day is $275 if registered by 4/15; $300 if registered after 4/15.


GO GREEN NATURE CAMP
Do you want to save the planet? Come find out how you can help the earth in this fun camp! Students will participate in exciting educational projects, games, crafts and environmentally driven community service. Half-day camps offered for campers in grades K– 5. Full-day camp offered for campers in grades 5 through 8. 

Summer Camp Dates:
Grades K-2: June 28—July 2 from 9:00 a.m. —12:00 p.m.
Grades 3-5: July 5 –9 from 9:00 a.m.—12:00 p.m.
Grades 5-8: July 12—16 from 9:00 a.m.—4:00 p.m.                  

Program cost: Program cost for half day is $150 if registered by 4/15; $165 if registered after 4/15. Program cost for full day is $275 if registered by 4/15; $300 if registered after 4/15.


Do you want to be a scientist? Join science teacher Jenna Cummings and learn how to make and create fun science experiments. Campers will strengthen their critical-thinking skills, analytical skills and organizational skills. Experiments will be fun and will help campers get ahead on science fair projects, too!

Summer Camp Dates:
Grades 4–8: July 26–30 from 1:00 p.m.—4:00 p.m.                  

Program cost:  Program cost is $150 if registered by 4/15; $165 if registered after 4/15.

NATIONAL MERIT SCHOLARS & NATIONAL HISPANIC RECOGNITION PROGRAM SCHOLAR
Congratulations to our 2010 National Merit Scholar and our two National Merit Commended Scholars.

AP SCHOLARS
We are so proud of all our AP ScholarsAP Scholar designation is granted to students who receive grades of 3 (5 is the highest score) or higher on three or more AP Exams.  This year we had three AP Scholars in the Class of 2009, four AP Scholars in the Class of 2010, and three AP Scholars in the Class of 2011.

AP SCHOLARS WITH HONOR
The AP Scholar with Honor distinction is granted to students who receive an average grade of at least 3.25 on all AP Exams taken, and grades of 3 or higher on four or more of these exams.  This year we had one AP Scholar with Honor in the Class of 2009 and two AP Scholars with Honor in the Class of 2010.

AP SCHOLARS WITH DISTINCTION
The AP Scholar with Distinction designation is granted to students who receive an average grade of at least 3.5 on all AP Exams taken, and grades of 3 or higher on five or more of these exams.  This year we congratulate two AP Scholars with Distinction in the Class of 2009 and three AP Scholars with Distinction in the Class of 2010.
